Conversational Intelligence: How Great Leaders Build Trust and Get

Extraordinary Results by Judith E. Glaser

  Speaker Bio:

Deb Shannon is a Certified Masteries Coach (CMC) credentialed through the International Association of Coaches and a Certified Conversational Intelligence ® coach. She is an implementation masteries session facilitator with the World Business and Executive Coaching Summit, where she works to continually raise the global standard of coaching.

Deb founded Shannon Resources in response to her experience working for a global healthcare tech company. She saw a need for employers to create model spaces in which to engage and empower the next workforce. Rather than indoctrinating young minds to do things the way they've always been done, Deb works with HR departments and founders to create a culture of purpose through conversations, combining the self-reflective tools of Positive Intelligence ® with Judith Glaser’s lifework in Conversational Intelligence ® . With this framework, clients build attractive and authentic work environments where individuals feel valued and empowered to interact within teams to deliver outcomes that serve individuals and the organizational mission. Deb works independently as a personal coach, speaker and Human Resources consultant.

As a former state telecommunications regulator and technology coach, Deb is known for leading high-energy facilitation sessions with technology teams and lay colleagues that result in commitment to a self-designed shared vision. Her curious and incisive approach to revealing interaction dynamics creates an atmosphere of trust and the drive to discover common ground. She has performed hundreds of hours of stakeholder interviews, culminating in the publication of the 2008 State of Vermont Telecommunications Plan.

At Cerner Corp, Deb received the Soaring Eagle Award for Client Engagement. Through challenging network security issues, Deb built trust despite a chaotic situation between a client and the Cerner team. On more than one occasion, within 24 hours, Deb and her team resolved glaring security omissions. A frequent webinar presenter, in a pre-COVID workplace, Deb brought together clients and colleagues to share best practices in an online forum. Attendees described the tech-heavy sessions as “uplifting, engaging and empowering.” Teammates appreciated being included in the data-gathering aspects of preparations and having their perspectives represented in meetings with management.

Her volunteer work includes countless hours in schools working to introduce rural staff and students to the remote opportunities that exist through true broadband access to the internet. Tennis has brought joy to her life since she was five years old. Deb shares her joy of tennis with the Buddy UP program, a high-energy adaptive tennis and fitness program for individuals with Down Syndrome. She also served on the Board of KeepBTLocal, a broadband cooperative initiative.

Deb’s interests include tennis instruction and competition, skiing, sailing, hiking, rowing, cheese making and berry picking. Deb can be found with her dog, Zoomer, on the trails all over, enjoying the endless beauty of our landscape and communities and the people who shape them.

Deb holds a BA in German and Economics from the University of Vermont. She is fluent in German and dog.
